A smoking beach scene in Negril, Jamaica

The traveler: Kim Jordahl from Perham, Minn.

The scene: A vendor on the beach relaxes in the shade in Negril, Jamaica.

Destination details: The resort town of Negril, on the western end of Jamaica, is famous for its sandy beaches, turquoise waters and rocky cliffs. What struck a chord with Jordahl, however – and what she most wants others to know about the place – is the warmth of its people. “Beautiful people who work very hard for a living,” she wrote in an email. Negril’s Seven Mile Beach stretches between two bays and is renowned for its golden sands and clear waters. Another part of the nearby coastline has high cliffs, where locals and visitors alike jump into the warm waters. For more information on the visit, go to visitjamaica.com.

The picture: Jordahl chose to share this photo because, “It was just an honest moment. He embodied the people I met in one picture, ”she wrote.

How she got it: Jordahl had walked along the beach and stopped to have a conversation with the man. “He was smoking and I asked him if he would blow the smoke into my camera lens – which of course he agreed to do,” she wrote. She used a Canon 5D Mark camera to capture the moment.
