The island of Hvar has always been a popular filming location and is a great place to shoot movies and series. In recent years, film tourism has become a new travel trend for many tourists who want to take photos or visit the filming locations of their favorite movies or series. However, the island of Hvar was recognized as a desirable filming location some 50 years ago, when the feature film The Deep was shot by famous American director Orson Welles. Another film that was made was The Odyssey, about the famous underwater explorer, Jacques Cousteau. Much of the filming took place in Hvar Town, Jelsa, Stari Grad and the Paklinski Islands. Also, a few years ago, a commercial for Jean Paul Gaultier was shot in Hvar, which featured beautiful scenes of the Dubovica pebble beach and the famous Hvar promenade in the center of Hvar.
The American reality show WAGS Miami – wives and girlfriends of top athletes was also filmed in Hvar. Filming took place all over the island and at Amfora and Adriana hotels. The show aired on E! Entertainment, which is part of NBCU Universal. Additionally, the British reality show Made in Chelsea was also filmed in Hvar, which included various island locations. This served as excellent publicity which attracted young Britons to this popular destination. Most recently, the popular NetFlix food series Somebody Feed Phil was filmed in September last year. Filming took place at the Palace Elisabeth hotel and in the town of Hvar.
