The Bellwether Beach Resort in St. Pete Beach, Florida opened on August 13.
The property is the first independent beachfront hotel in the Gulf Coast destination to open in more than a decade, according to a resort statement, and is housed in a renovated building that dates back to the 1970s.
Bellwether offers 156 rooms and suites with private balconies decorated in bright colors such as tangerine orange and lime green. The lobby features mid-century furnishings, period artwork, terrazzo tiles, and views of the Gulf of Mexico. Common areas include indoor and outdoor lounges, an oceanfront pool, and beachside cabanas with hotel attendants providing catering service.

The iconic Spinner Rooftop Grille restaurant is on the 12th floor and rotates, offering diners a 360-degree view of the beach below. One floor below is an open-air bar and lounge that will offer cocktails, music, small meals and desserts in the evenings. Bongo’s Beach Bar and Grill sits on the sand, has regular live music, and serves bar fare with mixed drinks, including frozen concoctions.
Bellwether Beach Resort is owned by subsidiaries of Miami-based Gencom and is operated by Benchmark, based in Texas.
âThe initial vision for the Bellwether Beach Resort began over three years ago when the current owners of the hotel purchased the property,â Jay Rocha, vice president of operations, Bellwether Beach Resort said in a statement. “The impressive beachfront location, the unique location of the dining rooms, and the Tower’s long history in this exceptional city all became key inspirations for what we knew this property could become.”
