Appeal. “The Pavilion is a place where guests will come to experience Hawaii’s rich culture in a grand way by bringing the larger community into the fold.”
In the Hawaiian language, Halau means large meeting house, and Ho’okipa is the act of entertaining with hospitality. Together the two words mean the meeting house for hospitable entertaining. The new pavilion is open on three walls to facilitate the organization of events and larger group gatherings. The design follows a basic A-frame construction with a natural thatched roof using local materials. Inside, a newly restored replica of an actual Hawaiian wa’a, or canoe house, will be featured. The pavilion can accommodate up to 180 people for a wedding or luau.
