Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort: the perfect family getaway in Curacao
Growing up, I never had the chance to travel outside of the United States. I watched my friends and peers go on trips around the world and visit all of these amazing places while I sat at home hoping to one day hop on a plane and explore. So when I was offered the opportunity to travel to the beautiful island of Curacao and visit Corendon Mangrove Beach ResortI jumped at the chance and got ready for my first adventure!
This Dutch Caribbean island sits just off the coast of Venezuela and is known for its beautiful beach-lined coves as well as extensive coral reefs. Curacao is also home to plenty of wildlife – one of them being flamingos which I was lucky enough to see while visiting the island – making it the perfect destination for any family to try. !
Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort
From the moment you arrive at this all-inclusive resort, you are bring in a tropical paradise that guests of all ages will enjoy. This hotel was originally built in 1968 and was a popular resort that many tourists and locals loved to visit. Since then Corendon has purchased the hotel, given it a whole new look and in July 2020 the Mangrove Beach Resort Corendon Curaçao All-Inclusive Resort opened.
Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort is made up of 399 rooms, most of which have one king-size bed and two single beds to accommodate a family, and each room has a private balcony or patio overlooking the landscape of the Caribbean Sea resort pool or the tropical mangrove forest.
Family activities on the complex
Sometimes at all-inclusive resorts you can struggle to keep your kids entertained. At Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort, there are a ton of activities for kids of all ages. The resort has a total of four pools on the property in which children can spend hours swimming!
The resort staff also wants to make your experience even more memorable, which is why they organize daily poolside games for all guests. If your family is looking to dip their toes in the island’s beautiful seawater, head to the resort’s private white sand beach where the kids will have fun playing in the water while the parents relax under the tiki umbrella or the private cabanas.
If you have little adventurers in the group, you should head to the resort’s water park which has six slides and is home to the popular “King Cobra” water slide which in personal experience is the best slide of all and is a must for all visitors.
For kids looking to get out of the water for a bit but still want to have fun, the resort also has a submarine-themed play area that kids can play on throughout the day. daytime.
Now it’s a holiday, which means it’s important for the parents to have a little fun too! That’s why the resort also offers babysitting services (surcharge) so parents can get away and relax without having to worry about supervising the kids.
Dinner at Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort
No matter what kind of food you crave, Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort has something every guest will enjoy! Breeze is the resort’s open buffet and is the main restaurant for guests. Whether you’re in the mood for comfort food or looking to try local dishes, guests can enjoy all the great food Breeze has to offer for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The resort also offers other dining options for which guests can book time slots. During my stay, I had the opportunity to try the Tavern Seafood restaurant at the resort which offered delicious seafood dishes and a beautiful view of the ocean to admire during your meal.
I also got to try Cor & Don’s BBQ Restaurant which is definitely one of my favorites (and other patrons who were there as there was a huge queue every night). Their menu has many signature barbecue dishes and the portions are huge and delicious.
Other notable restaurants that families will love are the Dushi Sushi Club (the word “Dushi” is actually a common word used in Curacao and can be used to praise food, a person or a nice place), as well as Ristorante Siciliano.
Family activities outside the complex
Besides the many perks available on the resort, there are so many fun things to do on the island. I had the opportunity to take a walking tour of the Otrobanda district, which is known as the cultural heart of Willemstad and is full of beautiful, colorful buildings and street art for families to admire. There are also plenty of shops and restaurants to try in the area that can give your family a little taste of the culture Curacao has to offer.
To get to the Otrobanda district, families will need to cross the Queen Emma Bridge, which was built in 1888 and is named after the Dutch queen. This floating bridge connects the neighborhoods of Otrobanda and Punda and, when a boat needs to pass, detaches and swings to one side to let them pass. If you head in this direction at night, you can also see that the bridge lights up in the colors of the rainbow!
As I said earlier, Curacao has some beautiful beaches located around the island, but one of my favorites was the Grote Knip. This world famous beach is located between two large cliffs and is the perfect place for families to snorkel and swim. If you’re feeling adventurous on your trip, families can also try their hand at cliff jumping!
Other recommended activities for children:
Curacao Children’s Museum: Although I did not have the opportunity to visit, the concierge and my guide recommend this popular museum where children will have the opportunity to explore their interactive exhibition areas designed to stimulate children’s creativity and imagination !
Go swimming with the dolphins: It’s not every day that you swim with some of the sea’s most beautiful creatures, so it’s time to take the opportunity! Dolphin Academy Curacao has dolphin swims available for children and their parents where you can swim alongside the animals and learn how to engage them with different signs and signals. For the younger members of the family, Dolphin Academy also offers dolphin encounters where you will stand on a submerged platform and interact with the dolphins without having to swim with them!
Covid precautions in Curacao
As of June 5, 2022, there are no Covid-19 related measures that travelers entering the island need to take. To return to the United States, you must present a negative COVID-19 test result taken no later than one day before travel. Here are some COVID-19 testing sites located around the island:
